Unusual restaurants

I was doing some research this evening for a project we're currently busy with at uni.. I came across quite an obscure, yet rather entertaining website. The tears are still streaming down my cheeks. Here are some favourites:

"waiters are monkeys"

"dining in complete darkness (often with blind staff)"

... and the one that really got me chuckling:

"BBQ chickens set on fire, catapulted through the air, and caught by a waiter riding unicycle"

Two recipes I'm keen to try this week...

First, a healthy and yummy looking carrot and quinoa bread that I found on inhabitots.com. I started making quite a bit of my own bread last year, but have been out of practice over the past few months. I don't have a bread maker and always imagined it to be a difficult task - but it's definitely much easier than you think! I started with this simple recipe and then began experimenting and adding my own twists like rye flour, linseeds and raisins etc..

The second one that caught my eye may prove much worse for the waistline - Gordon Ramsey's blondies. Unfortunately you can't find the method online - you have to log in to channel 4 to view the series (S1e8). Otherwise, like I did, download the app on your smartphone for access to all of the details! Still, here is a similar recipe including the method to follow.

Nom nom nom...

I could live here..

Today's find (and a fine one it is!):

Not 100% sold on the exterior design and perhaps a little less pine inside... but 'll take it! Love the double volume spaces and large expanse of windows to go along with. The cleverly placed and arranged windows allow privacy on the lower level (by simply closing the curtains), while still allowing plenty of natural light or the evening sky in from the row above. The layout and furnishings makes for a relaxed, lived-in atmosphere..

In the forest

Really loving this simple and elegant bamboo clad house in a Belgian forest. Talk about reflection - those windows depict the surroundings and seasonal changes so beautifully. Inhabitat.com provide so many interesting projects. For another example :)

The debut

For my début post as a nouveau blogger, I'd like to touch on 3 things that have excited me during the past week ;)

Good
http://www.good.is is a great website for an occasional visit and inspiration. It's comprised of a number of individuals, all with their own interests and opinions, who post and share what they care about. I follow them on twitter and am usually inspired to click through and find out more. Anyone can join and contribute, post, vote, etc. I haven't yet, but, as I write this, I think I just might!

Here's something I wanted to share from their site this week:
I'm very into 'upcycling' and this new found use for bicycle chains is very interesting. Pretty cool designs! Still, even more could be done - perhaps experimenting with finishes - gloss/ colour...

The all nighter
I was a first time visitor at http://theallnighter.tumblr.com this week.
By architects for architects, I had a good laugh at some of the content and advice offered on this blog. Sift through the text here and there and you'll find some gems. Interesting graphic representations and some off-beat inspiration.

This week's Tuesday night half price cinema
Being a student, we take advantage of Tuesday nights in Bergen. Searching for Sugarman was showing during the 2012 BIFF (Bergen International Film Festival), somehow we missed it, but managed to catch the final screening last week.
Being from South Africa, this film humbly pulled at a few heart strings, but I'm sure it had the same affect on many others.

The Telegraph give a brief outline of the story here.
