food of the gods

The Red Cacao (Theobroma cacao) is native to Central and South America. Theobroma, meaning "food of the gods" in Greek, produces it flowers directly on its trunk (cauliflorous). These develop into large pods that hold many dime-size seeds. Upon harvest, the fermented seeds are processed to become cocoa and cocoa butter and chocolate.
